The name hydrantit combines hydr- from water with a generic mineral-name suffix. In standard fictional formulations, hydrantit is modeled as a hydrated aluminum phosphate with variable water content, commonly written as AlPO4·nH2O, where n ranges from 1 to 5. Substitutions by iron (Fe3+) or magnesium (Mg2+) are often included to demonstrate cationic diversity in phosphate minerals.

In the conventional fictional model, hydrantit crystallizes in the monoclinic system and exhibits a color range from colorless to pale blue. Mohs hardness is placed around 3–4, with a vitreous to pearly luster. Estimated density typically lies between 2.6 and 3.0 g/cm3, reflecting a hydrated, porous crystal framework.
