Homológia is a concept used in various scientific fields, most notably in biology and linguistics. In biology, homologous structures are organs or skeletal elements of animals and plants that, by virtue of their similarity, suggest descent from a common ancestor. These structures may have different functions in descendant species but have a similar underlying anatomical plan. For example, the forelimbs of humans, bats, whales, and horses are homologous structures.
