Hniezd is a fictional town created for a collaborative worldbuilding project. It is imagined as part of the realm of Valoria, located in a highland basin surrounded by pine and beech forests. The settlement sits at about 900 meters above sea level and experiences a temperate montane climate with cold winters, mild summers, and short transitional seasons.

Historically, Hniezd traces its origins to a 12th-century \(re)settlement formed by shepherds and miners who settled along a valley route for trade and safety. Over the centuries it grew around a stone church and a craft guild, absorbing small neighboring communities. The arrival of a minor rail spur in the 19th century spurred modest industrial activity, though the town has retained a strong emphasis on traditional woodworking and agrarian life.

Demographics and governance describe a community of roughly 4,000–5,000 residents. The town uses a council–mayor system with an emphasis on sustainable forestry, heritage preservation, and local自治. The local population speaks a blended dialect, Hniedzic, influenced by neighboring valleys, with some residents also fluent in a shared regional language.

Economy and culture center on timber, handcrafts, and farm products, complemented by growing tourism tied to hiking trails and rural hospitality. Cultural life features nest-themed motifs in architecture and art, and the annual Nesting Festival highlights crafts, music, and storytelling. Notable landmarks include the Old Mill, the Stone Church, and a wooden lookout known as Nest Hall, which overlooks the surrounding valley.

Etymology indicates the name Hniezd derives from the Slavic word hniezdo meaning “nest,” with the form hniezd appearing in local heraldry and folklore.
