Hiilikuiturunkoja, also known as carbon fiber frames, are structural components manufactured from carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP). This material is composed of carbon fibers embedded within a resin matrix, typically epoxy. The combination results in a material that is exceptionally strong and stiff for its weight, making it highly desirable in applications where performance is critical.

The manufacturing process for carbon fiber frames usually involves laying up multiple layers of carbon fiber fabric into a mold. These layers are then impregnated with resin. The mold is then heated under pressure, causing the resin to cure and bind the fibers together into a solid, rigid structure. Different lay-up schedules and fiber orientations can be employed to tailor the strength, stiffness, and flexibility of the final product to specific requirements.

Carbon fiber frames are widely used in the aerospace industry due to their excellent strength-to-weight ratio, which contributes to fuel efficiency. They are also prevalent in high-performance automobiles, sports equipment like bicycles and tennis rackets, and in the construction of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles. The durability and resistance to corrosion of carbon fiber are additional advantages. While significantly lighter than traditional materials like steel or aluminum, carbon fiber frames can be more expensive to produce.
