hiekoituksella
Hiekoitus, in Finnish road maintenance, refers to the process of spreading abrasive material on icy or snowy surfaces to improve friction and reduce the risk of slipping for vehicles and pedestrians. The adverbial form hiekoituksella denotes the method or action of performing this process, i.e., “by gritting” or “with grit.” Hiekoitus is one of the standard winter maintenance tools alongside salting (suolaus, using salt or brines) and is commonly applied on roads, sidewalks, and other public surfaces where traction is essential.
Materials and methods commonly used in hiekoitus include loose abrasive agents such as sand or crushed rock.
Hiekoitus does not melt ice; it increases friction to reduce slipping, providing immediate but temporary traction
