Hidegalakítás is a Hungarian term referring to cold forming processes in metalworking. It encompasses a range of manufacturing techniques where metal is shaped at or near room temperature, without significant heating. This contrasts with hot forming, which involves heating the metal to make it more malleable.

Common hidegalakítás methods include cold rolling, cold drawing, cold forging, and stamping. Cold rolling is used to reduce the thickness and improve the surface finish of metal sheets and bars. Cold drawing is employed to produce wires and tubes with precise dimensions. Cold forging is utilized for creating fasteners, shafts, and other components with high strength. Stamping involves using a die to cut and shape sheet metal into desired forms.

The primary advantage of hidegalakítás is the resulting increase in material strength and hardness due to work hardening. This process also leads to improved surface finish and dimensional accuracy, often eliminating the need for subsequent finishing operations.
