Hellebori, commonly known as hellebores or Lenten roses, are a genus of herbaceous perennial flowering plants in the family Ranunculaceae. They are native to Europe and Western Asia, with a center of diversity in the Balkans and Turkey. Hellebori are prized for their elegant, often nodding flowers that bloom in late winter to early spring, a time when few other plants are in flower.

The genus Helleborus comprises about 20 species, with Helleborus orientalis, often referred to as the Lenten rose, being one of the most popular for garden cultivation. These plants typically form clumps of leathery, dark green leaves, which are often evergreen, providing winter interest. The flowers come in a wide range of colors, including white, pink, red, purple, green, and near-black, and can be single, semi-double, or double. Many varieties also feature distinctive spotting or speckling on their petals.

Hellebori are relatively low-maintenance plants that prefer partial shade and well-drained, moist soil. They are known for their hardiness and ability to tolerate some drought once established.
