History and culture: headbands have ancient origins, with cloth strips used across many regions to secure hair and signify status or ritual function. In modern Western fashion they gained popularity in the 1960s and 1980s as casual and athletic accessories. The Japanese hachimaki represents a traditional, symbolic headband worn in festivals or work contexts.
