A haymow is a space within a barn or other agricultural building used for storing baled or loose hay. Traditionally, haymows are located in the upper levels of a barn, often directly above the stalls for livestock. This elevated position helps with ventilation and keeps the hay dry, protecting it from moisture and ground pests.

The construction of a haymow can vary. In older barns, loose hay might be pitched up through large openings, called hay doors or mow doors, using pitchforks or hay forks. In more modern setups, especially with the advent of baling, haymows are designed to accommodate rectangular or round bales. These bales are typically stacked systematically to maximize storage capacity and stability.

The primary purpose of a haymow is to preserve harvested grasses and legumes, which serve as a crucial food source for livestock, particularly during winter months when fresh pasture is unavailable. The dry, stored hay provides essential nutrients and fiber. The management of a haymow is important to prevent spoilage, which can be caused by dampness, improper storage, or the presence of mold. Some haymows are equipped with ventilation systems to aid in the drying process and maintain hay quality. The term "hayloft" is sometimes used interchangeably with haymow, although "haymow" more specifically refers to the storage area itself.
