Happohyökkäys, known in English as an acid attack, is a form of violence in which a person or persons throws acid or other corrosive substances onto another person with the intent to disfigure, torture, or murder. These attacks often target the face, causing severe burns, blindness, and permanent disfigurement. The psychological trauma for survivors is immense, often leading to social isolation and difficulty reintegrating into society.

The motives behind acid attacks vary widely and can include revenge, domestic disputes, jealousy, or as a form of punishment. While not as prevalent globally as some other forms of violence, acid attacks are a particularly brutal and visually shocking crime.
