A hangszintetizátor, often referred to as a synthesizer, is an electronic musical instrument that generates audio signals. Unlike acoustic instruments that produce sound through physical vibration, synthesizers create sound electronically. They achieve this through various techniques, most commonly by using oscillators to produce raw sound waves. These waves can then be shaped and modified using a variety of modules.

Key components of a typical synthesizer include oscillators, filters, and amplifiers. Oscillators generate the fundamental waveform, such as sine, square, sawtooth, or triangle waves. Filters are used to remove or boost certain frequencies, shaping the timbre or tonal quality of the sound. Amplifiers control the loudness of the sound, often with a voltage-controlled amplifier (VCA) that can be modulated to create dynamic changes. Envelope generators are also crucial, controlling how parameters like amplitude, filter cutoff, or pitch change over time, creating distinct attack, decay, sustain, and release (ADSR) characteristics.

Synthesizers can be analog or digital. Analog synthesizers use electronic circuits to generate and manipulate sound, often prized for their warm, organic sound. Digital synthesizers use digital signal processing (DSP) to create and modify sounds, offering greater precision, a wider range of sonic possibilities, and often more complex sound design capabilities. Many modern synthesizers are hybrid, incorporating both analog and digital elements. They are used across a vast array of musical genres, from electronic dance music and pop to film scores and experimental music, due to their versatility and ability to create sounds not possible with traditional instruments.
