Höyhenpeitot refers to a traditional Finnish technique of constructing raised, mounded earthen platforms, commonly used in agricultural and landscape management. The term combines "höyhen" (mound) and "peitto" (covering), reflecting the method’s core principle of elevating land surfaces to improve drainage, fertility, and usability.

This practice dates back centuries and was widely employed across Finland’s varied terrain, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging or poor soil quality. By piling soil, peat, or other organic materials onto low-lying or swampy ground, farmers created stable, elevated fields that were easier to cultivate. The mounds also helped regulate water flow, reducing erosion and flooding while concentrating nutrients in the raised areas.
