Géntechnológiában, commonly referred to as genetic engineering, is a field of biotechnology that involves the direct manipulation of an organism's genes using biotechnology. It encompasses a set of techniques used to isolate, modify, and reintroduce genes into an organism, or to modify the expression of existing genes. This allows for the creation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) with desired traits.

The fundamental process often involves identifying a specific gene of interest and then using molecular tools to cut and paste this gene into the DNA of another organism, or to alter the existing genetic material. Techniques such as gene cloning, PCR (polymerase chain reaction), and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing are central to géntechnológiában.
