Gyroskooppityypit refer to the different classifications or types of gyroscopes. Gyroscopes are rotating devices that exhibit a property called gyroscopic inertia, which causes them to resist changes in their orientation. The primary types of gyroscopes are mechanical gyroscopes and electronic gyroscopes.

Mechanical gyroscopes are the most traditional form and rely on a spinning rotor. The most common subtype is the spinning mass gyroscope, which uses a rotor spinning at high speed. The axis of rotation of this rotor will maintain its orientation in space. Another type is the dynamically tuned gyroscope (DTG), also known as a dynamically tuned gyroscope. These are often used for high-precision navigation. Vibrating structure gyroscopes, while mechanical in nature, operate on a different principle, using the resonant frequencies of vibrating elements rather than a spinning mass.

Electronic gyroscopes, also known as solid-state gyroscopes, do not use a spinning mass. Instead, they utilize the Coriolis effect acting on a vibrating element or other principles of physics. MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) gyroscopes are a prominent example, using tiny vibrating structures fabricated on silicon. Optical gyroscopes are another important category within electronic gyroscopes. These include the ring laser gyroscope (RLG), which uses the difference in transit times of two laser beams traveling in opposite directions around a closed loop, and the fiber optic gyroscope (FOG), which uses the Sagnac effect to measure rotation by observing phase shifts in light beams traveling through optical fiber. Each type of gyroscope has advantages and disadvantages regarding cost, accuracy, size, and power consumption, making them suitable for different applications.
