gwersyllt

Gwersyllt is a village and community in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. It lies to the north of the town of Wrexham and is part of the historic county of Denbighshire. The name derives from the Welsh gwersyllt, meaning camp or bivouac.

Historically, Gwersyllt developed as a mining and brick-making community in the 19th century, attracting workers to nearby collieries and industries. The growth of these industries led to rapid housing development and the formation of a distinct local community. Following mine closures in the 20th century, the area transitioned to a residential suburb of Wrexham.

Today, Gwersyllt is served by Gwersyllt railway station on the Borderlands Line, which runs between Wrexham and Bidston on the Wirral. The village is also connected by bus services to Wrexham and surrounding areas. Local amenities include shops, churches, and schools, with secondary education available in nearby Wrexham.

Administratively, Gwersyllt is a civil parish (community) within Wrexham County Borough and is represented on the county council. The area includes residential estates set in a mix of suburban and rural surroundings, with access to countryside and green spaces in the surrounding area.
