Wrexham

Wrexham is a town in northeast Wales, and the administrative centre of Wrexham County Borough. It lies close to the England–Wales border, about 12 miles south of Chester, and serves as a regional commercial hub with rail, road, and retail links to other parts of the country.

With a history dating back to medieval times, Wrexham developed as a market town and grew rapidly during the Industrial Revolution. The surrounding area supported coal mining, brickmaking, and heavy manufacturing, and the nearby Brymbo steelworks and Wrexham Industrial Estate have continued to shape the local economy.

Landmarks and institutions include the Racecourse Ground, the home stadium of Wrexham AFC, which has attracted international attention since 2020 due to high-profile ownership. Nearby Erddig, a National Trust property, and the historic St. Giles’ Church anchor the town’s heritage. Glyndŵr University is based in Wrexham.

Transport links connect Wrexham to Chester, Shrewsbury, and beyond through two railway stations, Wrexham General and Wrexham Central. The town is served by the A483 and is within reach of Manchester and Liverpool airports, supporting commuting and regional trade.

In recent years, Wrexham has pursued redevelopment and cultural investment to strengthen services, housing, and tourism while maintaining its role as a key local center for North Wales.
