Brymbo

Brymbo is a village and community in Wrexham County Borough, Wales, located to the west of Wrexham town. It sits within the historic county of Denbighshire and forms part of the north-east Welsh coalfield. The area has developed around ironworking, coal mining, and related industries, leaving a distinctive industrial heritage.

From the 18th into the 20th century, Brymbo grew as a center of iron and steel production. The Brymbo Steelworks became a major employer and producer of steel; it operated for more than a century before its closure in the late 20th century. The decline of heavy industry profoundly affected the local community and landscape, with mine and works sites later subject to remediation.

Today, the village is primarily residential, with efforts to preserve and interpret its industrial past. Local heritage groups, including the Brymbo Heritage Group, run exhibitions and collections that document the history of the works, mines, and community life. Redevelopment of former industrial land has progressed alongside the creation of community facilities and environmental improvements, keeping the memory of Brymbo's industrial era a living part of the town.
