Gronddeeltjes are tiny microscopic particles that are a primary component of soil. They have a diameter of 0.002 to 0.05 millimeters and are often irregular in shape. Gronddeeltjes are located in the soil's B-horizon and are formed through a process of weathering, breakdown, and grinding.

The two main types of gronddeeltjes are calcium carbonate and iron hydroxide. They have distinct characteristics such as internal pores and a rough exterior surface. Gronddeeltjes variation in shape and size contributes to their specific physical and chemical properties.

One of the primary functions of gronddeeltjes is to improve soil's aeration and water infiltration capabilities. They help to create porosity, reducing soil settlement and retaining water in the soil matrix. This, in turn, promotes healthy plant growth by providing essential nutrients.

The soil in the Benelux region largely consists of gronddeeltjes and, therefore, has low clay content. This type of soil structure contributes to high water retention capabilities. Gronddeeltjes interact with plant roots, creating temporary cation exchange complexes.

Lower soil and groundwater levels associated with gronddeeltjes-bearing soils encourage the ozone-rich reactivity of at least one Nitrogen-oxygen-unsaturated inner-shell atom. The activities mentioned above support ecosystem balance in areas where these particles are prevalent, forming the base units of agricultural settings.
