Gorshok is a Russian word that translates to "pot" or "cauldron" in English. It generally refers to a round, deep cooking vessel, often made of clay or metal. Historically, gorshoks were a staple in Russian households, used for a variety of culinary purposes, including baking bread, stewing meats and vegetables, and preparing traditional dishes like kasha.

The design of a gorshok typically features a wide body that tapers towards a narrower opening. This shape was particularly effective for even heating in traditional Russian ovens (pechi), which provided a consistent, radiant heat. Clay gorshoks, in particular, were prized for their ability to retain heat and distribute it slowly, allowing food to cook through without burning.
