glansdannelse

Glansdannelse is a term used in Danish and Norwegian to refer to the formation and development of the glans penis, the sensitive, rounded head at the distal end of the male penis. The concept is used in anatomical and developmental contexts to discuss how the glans originates during fetal life and how it matures during puberty.

The glans is the distal part of the penis and is typically covered by the foreskin in uncircumcised individuals. It contains a high density of nerve endings and plays a key role in sexual sensation. The corona forms as the rim around the glans, and the external urethral opening is located at the tip.

Developmentally, the penis develops from the genital tubercle in the male fetus. The glans forms as part of the distal region of the developing penis, with the foreskin forming a covering that normally retracts or remains over it in infancy and childhood. Hormonal changes during puberty, especially rising testosterone, contribute to the maturation and increased sensitivity of the glans.

Variability in glans size, shape, and exposure is normal among individuals. Congenital anomalies can affect the glans or surrounding structures, and medical evaluation may be warranted if there are concerns about development or function. In clinical discussions, glansdannelse is primarily a descriptive term rather than a diagnosis, with emphasis on normal development, anatomy, and variation.
