Genotypverhältnisse, often translated as genotypic ratios, describe the expected proportions of different genotypes within a population or in the offspring of a genetic cross. A genotype refers to the specific combination of alleles an individual possesses for a particular gene. For instance, in a simple Mendelian inheritance scenario with two alleles, 'A' and 'a', the possible genotypes are AA, Aa, and aa.

When parents with known genotypes reproduce, their offspring will inherit a combination of alleles from each parent. Punnett squares are a common tool used to predict the genotypic ratios of the offspring. For example, if both parents are heterozygous (Aa), a cross between them (Aa x Aa) is expected to yield offspring with genotypes AA, Aa, and aa in a ratio of 1:2:1.
