gemeldete

Gemeldete is the past participle of melden and is used in German mainly as an attributive adjective meaning “reported” or “notified.” It describes information, events, or data that have been conveyed to authorities or to others by some source. In practice it appears in contexts such as official reports, press releases, and statistical summaries.

Declension and usage

When gemeldete modifies a noun, it is declined like a normal adjective after a definite article: der gemeldete Fehler, die gemeldete Störung, das gemeldete Problem. In plural the form is die gemeldeten Fälle. With an indefinite article, as in eine gemeldete Meldung, the adjective takes a mixed/weak ending consistent with standard German adjective declension. In predicative position the phrase uses the simple past participle gemeldet: Der Vorfall ist gemeldet. The attributive gemeldete form is therefore used almost exclusively in front of a noun.

Semantic nuance

Gemeldete signals that information has been officially or formally transmitted. It is common in safety reports, health statistics, law enforcement bulletins, and media summaries to refer to “gemeldete Fälle,” “gemeldete Störungen,” or “gemeldete Zahlen.” The term emphasizes the status of the information as having been reported, rather than as directly observed by the speaker.

Nominal use

In some contexts the participle can be nominalized, yielding a noun phrase such as Die Gemeldeten, referring to the people or items that have been reported. When used this way, capitalization follows normal German noun rules.
