The form is an adjectival creation derived from Gauss and is common in Scandinavian languages where it functions similarly to the English term “Gaussian.” It is used as a label for ideas that rely on Gaussian assumptions rather than as a formal, standalone theory.

In statistics, Gaussiskt commonly refers to the Gaussian distribution, also known as the normal distribution, characterized by its bell-shaped curve and defined by a mean and a variance. The distribution is symmetric and unimodal, with many statistical results and inference procedures built on its properties, including the central limit theorem which explains its pervasiveness in natural phenomena.
