Gaurdonud is a fictional sovereign region located in the northern archipelago of Eldoria. It comprises eight inhabited islands connected by ferries and bridges, featuring a jagged coastline, deep fjords, and extensive pine forests. The capital and principal port is Norhaven, located on the largest island.

Settlement in the area began in the late first millennium CE, with a loose maritime confederation forming during the medieval period. In the modern era, Gaurdonud joined a regional union in 1878 and moved toward greater autonomy in the 20th century, achieving de facto independence and international recognition after a peaceful transition in 1952.

Gaurdonud operates as a constitutional parliamentary republic. The President serves as ceremonial head of state, while the Prime Minister heads the government. The unicameral Parliament has 47 members elected every four years. The legal system is civil law, with an independent judiciary. Local island councils exercise municipal powers and oversee regional matters.

The economy centers on fisheries, aquaculture, shipbuilding, maritime services, and tourism, with growing renewable energy sectors in tidal and wind power. The currency is the Gaurd. Ports and an international airport on Norhaven provide international links, while ferries connect the islands and a limited rail line runs on the main island.

Approximately 420,000 people live in Gaurdonud. The official language is Gaurdonese; English is widely spoken as a second language. The society is religiously diverse but generally secular, with high literacy rates. Cultural traditions emphasize seafaring heritage, craftsmanship, and seafood cuisine. The region maintains universities, including the University of Norhaven, and a network of museums and cultural centers.
