Föderatsioonidest, also known as federations, are political entities characterized by a union of partially self-governing states or regions under a central authority. Federations are distinct from confederations, as the latter are loose associations of independent states with a central government that has limited powers.

Federations can be found in various forms around the world, including the Russian Federation, Switzerland, Germany, and Australia. Each of these federations has its own unique history, political structure, and cultural characteristics. Despite these differences, all federations share the common feature of a central government that exercises authority over a group of constituent units with varying degrees of autonomy.
