Fényterületekre refers to the concept of light fields in Hungarian. A light field is a function that describes the amount of light traveling through a point in space in a particular direction. More formally, it is a function of five variables: three spatial coordinates (x, y, z) and two angular coordinates (θ, φ) that specify the direction of light rays. Understanding light fields is crucial in various fields, including computer graphics, computer vision, and optics.

In computer graphics, light fields are used to represent and render complex scenes, especially those with intricate lighting effects or volumetric phenomena. By capturing or generating a light field, it becomes possible to render novel views of a scene without needing to re-simulate the entire rendering process. This approach, known as view synthesis, relies on interpolating between sampled light rays to create new perspectives.

In computer vision, light field cameras, also known as plenoptic cameras, are specialized devices that can capture light field data directly. These cameras typically use an array of microlenses placed in front of the main sensor. Each microlens captures a small portion of the scene from a slightly different perspective, effectively recording information about the direction of incoming light rays. This directional information allows for post-capture refocusing, depth estimation, and the creation of stereoscopic images.

The theoretical underpinnings of light fields allow for a comprehensive representation of light transport. This enables advanced applications such as simulating atmospheric effects, rendering transparent or translucent materials, and reconstructing 3D scenes from multiple views.
