frostfølsomhet
Frostfølsomhet, often translated as frost sensitivity, refers to the susceptibility of plants, animals, or even materials to damage caused by freezing temperatures. For plants, frostfølsomhet is a critical factor in their geographical distribution and agricultural viability. Different plant species have varying degrees of tolerance to cold. Some plants, like certain tropical species, are highly frostfølsom and can be severely damaged or killed by even light frosts. Others, like deciduous trees in temperate climates, can develop frost hardiness through a process of acclimatization, allowing them to survive much lower temperatures. The damage from frost occurs when water within plant tissues freezes, forming ice crystals that can rupture cell walls and disrupt physiological processes.
In animals, frostfølsomhet is also a concern, particularly for ectotherms (cold-blooded animals) like insects and reptiles,
