Fotogrammetrísk refers to the science and technology of obtaining reliable information about physical objects and the environment through the process of recording, measuring, and interpreting photographic images and patterns of electromagnetic radiant energy and other phenomena. In simpler terms, it is the art of making measurements from photographs.

The core principle of photogrammetry involves taking multiple overlapping photographs of an object or scene from different viewpoints. By analyzing the parallax (the apparent shift in an object's position when viewed from different angles) between these overlapping images, it's possible to determine the three-dimensional coordinates of points on the object. This process requires precise knowledge of the camera's position and orientation at the time each photograph was taken.

Modern photogrammetry often utilizes aerial or satellite imagery, but it can also be performed with ground-based cameras. The output of photogrammetric processing can include detailed 2D maps, 3D models, and precise measurements of distances, areas, and volumes. Applications are widespread, ranging from surveying and mapping, architecture, engineering, and construction to archaeology, forensic science, and even the creation of visual effects for movies and video games.
