Formsliterature is a term used in literary studies to describe a focus on form as a central site of meaning in literary works. It encompasses both the analysis of how structure, meter, rhyme, typography, and layout shape interpretation, and the creative practice of producing texts in which form is foregrounded or constrained. The term functions as a loose umbrella for formal experimentation across genres, including traditional fixed forms, prose-poetic hybrids, and contemporary digital or print layouts.

The concept draws on formalist and New Formalist traditions and aligns with constraint-based writing movements such as Oulipo, as well as with concrete or visual poetry. In criticism, formsliterature emphasizes close reading of formal features and the ways in which a text's design participates in argument, mood, or narrative, sometimes independently of subject matter. In creative practice, writers may deliberately employ or subvert established forms, impose constraints, or experiment with typography, lineation, pagination, and multimedia elements to elicit particular effects.

In the current era, formsliterature also engages with digital media, interactive narratives, and ergodic literature, where reader interaction or digital presentation becomes part of the form. While not a universally fixed field, formsliterature serves as a framework for analyzing and producing works where form and technique are as crucial as content.
