Folyadékszaporulatot, a Hungarian term, translates to "fluid excess" or "fluid overload" in English. It refers to a condition where the body retains more fluid than it can effectively eliminate, leading to an accumulation of fluid in various tissues and body cavities. This imbalance can disrupt normal physiological functions and cause a range of symptoms.

Several factors can contribute to fluid excess. Impaired kidney function is a common cause, as the kidneys play a crucial role in regulating fluid and electrolyte balance. When the kidneys are not functioning properly, they may be unable to excrete excess sodium and water, leading to their retention. Heart failure is another significant contributor. In heart failure, the heart's ability to pump blood efficiently is compromised, which can cause fluid to back up in the lungs, legs, and abdomen. Liver disease, particularly cirrhosis, can also lead to fluid accumulation due to altered protein synthesis and impaired blood flow through the liver. Treatment focuses on addressing the underlying cause and reducing the excess fluid through diuretics, dietary modifications (e.g., sodium restriction), and management of the underlying medical condition.
