In Swedish and related contexts the term resembles flexibilitet, but flexibillitet is sometimes used to emphasize multi‑dimensional adaptability across different contexts. It is often discussed alongside related notions such as resilience, agility and robustness, and is commonly explored in both theoretical and practical discussions about design and management under uncertainty.

Dimensions of flexibillitet include temporal, structural, functional and spatial aspects.
