Flexbox, also known as CSS Flexible Box Layout, is a layout model for arranging items in rows or columns. It provides a more efficient way to lay out, align, and distribute space among items in a container, even when their size is unknown or dynamic. The primary goal of flexbox is to give a container the ability to alter its items' width and height to best fit the available space.

Flexbox works with a parent container, called the flex container, and its direct children, called flex items. Properties are applied to the flex container to control the layout of its items. Key properties include flex-direction, which defines the main axis of the flex container (row or column), and flex-wrap, which determines whether items should wrap onto new lines.

Alignment properties are crucial in flexbox. Justify-content aligns items along the main axis, while align-items aligns them along the cross axis. Align-content further controls the spacing between lines when flex-wrap is active. Individual flex items can also have properties like flex-grow, flex-shrink, and flex-basis to control their size and behavior within the container. This makes flexbox a powerful tool for creating responsive and adaptable web designs.
