This procedure involves mobilizing a section of tissue, known as a flap, from one part of the body to another. The flap contains its own blood supply, ensuring its survival in its new location.

There are several types of flap reconstructions. Local flaps utilize tissue from an adjacent area, minimizing donor site morbidity. Regional flaps, on the other hand, draw tissue from a more distant site but still within the same vascular territory. Common applications include breast reconstruction after mastectomy, head and neck reconstruction following tumor removal, and the repair of complex skin and soft tissue defects resulting from trauma or infection.
