Filtermasks, also known as filters or masks, are components used in various technological and artistic applications to selectively allow or block certain elements. In the context of digital imaging and graphics, filtermasks are often used to control the application of effects. For instance, a mask can define specific areas of an image where a blur or color adjustment should be applied, while leaving other areas untouched. This is commonly achieved by using a grayscale image as the mask, where white areas indicate full application of the effect and black areas indicate no application, with shades of gray representing partial application.
