Filblokker is a term used in information technology to refer to mechanisms that prevent the creation, storage, transfer, or use of certain files or file types. The term is not universally standardized and its meaning can vary by language or context; in many Nordic languages it combines fil (file) with blokker (blockers) to denote blocking of file-related actions.

In practice, filblokker can be hardware- or software-based. Common implementations include data loss prevention (DLP) systems that inspect content and block uploads or transfers of restricted file types or data; endpoint security tools that restrict removable media; network gateways that block file transfers via protocols such as FTP, SMB, or cloud storage; and application controls that prevent saving, copying, or sending specific file types. The goal is to limit exposure to sensitive information, malware, or policy violations.

In consumer settings, parental controls or security suites may include filblokker features to block executables or media files deemed risky. In organizational contexts, policy-based filblokker supports regulatory compliance and reduces risk of exfiltration or malware distribution, though effectiveness depends on policy accuracy and user behavior.

Limitations and challenges include potential circumvention, false positives, and the need for ongoing policy updates as new file types and threats emerge. Implementations require careful planning to balance security with legitimate workflows, user experience, and performance.
