Filamentkategorier refers to the classification of materials used in 3D printing. These categories are based on the material's properties, printing requirements, and common applications. Understanding these categories helps users select the appropriate filament for their specific project needs.

One of the most common categories is basic thermoplastics. This includes materials like PLA (Polylactic Acid) and ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene). PLA is known for its ease of printing, biodegradability, and low warp, making it ideal for beginners and hobbyists. ABS, while requiring higher printing temperatures and good ventilation due to fumes, offers greater durability and temperature resistance, making it suitable for functional parts.

Another significant category is engineering filaments. These are designed for applications requiring higher mechanical strength, temperature resistance, or chemical resistance. Examples include PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol), Nylon, and Polycarbonate. PETG offers a good balance of strength and printability, bridging the gap between PLA and more demanding materials. Nylon provides excellent flexibility and abrasion resistance, while Polycarbonate is known for its extreme strength and heat resistance.

Specialty filaments form a third broad category. These filaments often incorporate additives to achieve unique properties or aesthetics.
