Fejlraten is a statistical measure used to quantify the proportion of incorrect outcomes in a process, system, or dataset over a specified interval or set of trials. It is commonly expressed as a fraction or percentage. The fejlraten is calculated by dividing the number of incorrect results by the total number of observations or opportunities for error. In time-based contexts, it may be stated as errors per unit time.

In different fields, the term may map to related concepts: in quality assurance and manufacturing it reflects defective items; in software testing it reflects failed tests; in information theory and communications it corresponds to the error probability, often referred to as the bit error rate when discussing digital data.

Interpreting fejlraten involves considering the context and the cost of errors. A lower fejlraten generally indicates higher quality or reliability, but ideal thresholds depend on the application and risk tolerance. Researchers distinguish fejlraten from related metrics such as accuracy, which is the complement of the error rate for a finite set of predictions, and from false positive and false negative rates, which categorize errors by type.

Calculation example: if a classifier makes 1,000 predictions and 42 are incorrect, the fejlraten is 42/1000 = 0.042, or 4.2%. In a manufacturing line, if 15 out of 10,000 produced items are defective, the fejlraten is 0.0015 or 0.15%.
