Faasisünkroonimiseks, often abbreviated as PLL, is an electronic circuit that generates a signal whose phase is directly related to the phase of an input signal. Essentially, it's a control system that locks the phase of an output oscillator to the phase of a reference input. This synchronization is achieved through a feedback loop.

The core components of a PLL include a phase detector, a loop filter, and a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). The phase detector compares the phase of the input signal with the phase of the VCO's output signal. Any difference in phase results in an error voltage. This error voltage is then smoothed by the loop filter, which removes high-frequency components and determines the PLL's dynamic characteristics, such as its lock time and bandwidth. The filtered error voltage then controls the VCO, adjusting its frequency and thus its phase until it matches the input signal.

PLLs are widely used in various electronic applications. They are crucial in telecommunications for demodulating signals and recovering clock information from data streams. In digital systems, PLLs are employed to generate precise clock frequencies for microprocessors and other integrated circuits. They also find use in frequency synthesis, where a stable output frequency is generated from a less stable reference frequency, and in phase modulation and demodulation. The ability of a PLL to track and lock onto signals makes it a fundamental building block in modern electronics.
