Extrapyramidaalseid refers to a set of motor symptoms that arise from dysfunction in the extrapyramidal motor system. This system is a complex network of neurons originating in the cerebral cortex and brainstem, which modulates voluntary movement and plays a crucial role in muscle tone, posture, and involuntary movements. Unlike the pyramidal tract, which directly controls voluntary muscle actions, the extrapyramidal system influences movement indirectly.
