The Eternals are a fictional race of immortal humanoids in Marvel Comics. Created by writer-artist Jack Kirby, they first appeared in The Eternals #1 (1976). In Marvel lore, they are the result of genetic experiments conducted by the cosmic beings known as the Celestials on early humans, intended to guide and protect humanity while remaining hidden from ordinary people.

Long-lived and highly resilient, Eternals possess a range of superhuman abilities that includes enhanced strength, speed, durability, flight, energy manipulation, telepathy, and matter manipulation. Individual powers vary, and some Eternals specialize in technology, healing, or strategy rather than raw force.

They maintain an enduring culture and a secretive presence on Earth. They live in hidden cities or isolated communities, often working to fulfill celestial duties, pursue scientific advancement, and defend humanity against threats such as their rivals, the Deviants, who represent a separate evolutionary line.

Prominent members encountered in comics include Ikaris, Sersi, Thena, Gilgamesh, Ajak, Sprite, Phastos, Makkari, Druig, and Kingo. Across stories, the Eternals have faced moral and existential questions about their mission, authority, and interactions with humans.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Eternals were adapted in a 2021 feature film directed by Chloé Zhao. The film presents their ancient history, their relationship with the Celestials, and the implications of their long-term mission on Earth.
