Esztergákkal, commonly referred to as "eszterga" in Hungarian, is the Hungarian term for a lathe. A lathe is a machine tool that rotates a workpiece on an axis of rotation to perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, facing, turning, and deforming, with tools applied to the workpiece to create an object which is symmetric about the axis of rotation.

Lathes have been used since antiquity, possibly as early as the 1st century AD. Early lathes were operated by foot power, often using a bow or a spring pole to impart rotational motion. The development of the screw-cutting lathe in the 19th century was a significant advancement, enabling the precise manufacture of threaded components. Modern lathes are highly sophisticated machines, often computer-controlled (CNC lathes), allowing for automated and highly precise manufacturing.

In Hungary, "esztergákkal" are fundamental tools in many industries, including metalworking, woodworking, and plastics manufacturing.
