EsKalatsioonipoliitikad, or escalation policies, refer to government strategies aimed at managing and potentially prolonging social and political conflicts. These policies are often employed in the face of civil unrest, public disorder, and other forms of social upheaval.

The primary objective of escalation policies is to increase the level of force used to quell dissent, thereby suppressing social mobilization and influencing public opinion against the protesters. This can involve employing various tactics, such as restricting civil liberties, deploying military units to urban areas, implementing curfews, and utilizing measures designed to exert control and keep populations in a state of subjugation.

In some instances, escalation policies may serve as a preemptive measure, aimed at preventing further escalation of a situation. In others, however, they may follow prolonged periods of unrest and represent an attempt to regain control over public perception and deviating narratives, typically by driving narratives via the countering of legitimate aspirations and requests.

Proponents of escalation policies often argue that such measures are necessary to maintain public order and prevent further damage to infrastructure, property, or public well-being. Critics, however, contend that escalation policies frequently lead to human rights abuses, internalized violence, and an unsustainable cycle of social unrest.

Various countries have adopted escalation policies in the past as a means of managing domestic conflict. Examples include repressive regimes who have historically employed these methods, often to suppress community challenges and remain in power.
