Esitysaikana is a Finnish term used to denote the period during which a performance takes place. It is commonly employed in theatre, concerts, film screenings, and other live or staged events to describe actions, rules, or phenomena that occur within the duration of the show.

Etymology and form: The word is built from esitys (performance) and aika (time) with the suffix -na, yielding esitys-aika and its inflected form esitysaikana meaning “during the time of the performance.” It is predominantly used in written Finnish to indicate temporal scope and is comparable to the English expression “during the performance.” In everyday speech, the phrase esityksen aikana is also common.

Usage: In manuals, schedules, or critical writing, esitysaikana helps specify what is permitted or expected during a show. For example, Esitysaikana valokuvien ottaminen on kielletty (During the performance, taking photographs is prohibited). Esitysaikana yleisöä pyydetään olemaan hiljaa (During the performance, the audience is asked to remain quiet). The term is most frequent in formal or semi-formal contexts such as program notes, guidelines for venues, and media coverage.
