Esirukoukset is a term found in Finnish folklore studies that refers to prayers directed at ancestors or forebears. The word combines esi- meaning former or earlier and rukoukset meaning prayers, yielding a concept often translated as ancestral or forefather prayers. The term is used to describe a category of ritual speech, rather than a single standardized liturgy.

In practice, esirukoukset were part of household or community rituals in various Finnish regions, especially in contexts tied to family lineage, harvest, funerary rites, or important life transitions. Prayers could be spoken or chanted and were sometimes accompanied by small offerings or the attention of an elder or household head. Content and form varied regionally and over time, and the practices often overlapped with, or were later reinterpreted within, Christianized forms of piety.
