Epoxypolyuretan, or epoxy polyurethane, refers to a class of resin systems that combine epoxy and urethane functionalities. These materials are typically produced by incorporating epoxy groups into polyurethane networks or by reacting epoxy resins with urethane segments. The aim is to merge the hardness and chemical resistance of epoxy with the flexibility and toughness of polyurethane.

Synthesis methods include epoxy-modified polyurethanes formed by reacting glycidyl ethers with polyurethane prepolymers, epoxy resins reacted with diisocyanates to create polyurethane–epoxy networks, or the preparation of epoxy-urethane prepolymers that are subsequently cured. These approaches enable various architectures, such as fully crosslinked epoxy-urethane networks or blocky copolymers.

Curing mechanisms vary and may involve amine or acid anhydride hardeners for the epoxy portion, moisture or heat curing of urethane segments, or dual-curing schemes. Many formulations are two-component systems, combining epoxy- and/or polyurethane-reactive parts. Relevant properties include strong adhesion to metals and other substrates, good chemical and solvent resistance, and a balanced combination of hardness and toughness. Thermal stability and weather resistance are often enhanced compared with some single-component systems.

Applications span protective coatings for wood, metal, concrete, and composites; automotive and marine finishes; electronic potting and encapsulation; and certain adhesive and composite-matrix formulations used in aerospace and industrial equipment.

Advantages of epoxypolyuretan include improved mechanical properties, solvent resistance, and adhesion. Limitations can involve higher processing complexity, cost, and potential moisture sensitivity or handling considerations related to reactive isocyanates and epoxy curing agents.
