Finally, the anthropic epipedon is a human-influenced horizon, often found in areas with long-term agricultural use, and is characterized by elevated levels of phosphorus and other nutrients.

The formation and characteristics of epipedons are influenced by factors such as climate, parent material, topography, organisms, and time. Studying epipedons helps soil scientists understand soil development, fertility, and suitability for various land uses, including agriculture, forestry, and construction.
