Epikondüliit, commonly known as tennis elbow or golfer's elbow depending on the affected side, is a condition characterized by pain and tenderness on the outside or inside of the elbow. It is an overuse injury that affects the tendons connecting the forearm muscles to the bony prominences on the humerus bone near the elbow joint.

Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, involves inflammation or microtears in the tendons that extend the wrist. This typically occurs due to repetitive motions such as gripping, lifting, or turning the wrist. Activities like playing tennis, using hand tools, or prolonged computer use can contribute to its development. The pain is usually felt on the outer side of the elbow and can radiate down the forearm.

Golfer's elbow, or medial epicondylitis, affects the tendons that flex the wrist and pronate the forearm. It is often associated with repetitive gripping and forceful movements of the wrist, commonly seen in golf, but also in sports like baseball or through occupations involving manual labor. Pain is experienced on the inner side of the elbow and may radiate down the arm.

Diagnosis is usually based on a physical examination and the patient's medical history. Treatment aims to reduce pain and inflammation and restore function. This often includes rest from aggravating activities, ice application, pain relievers, and physical therapy. Physical therapy may involve stretching and strengthening exercises for the forearm muscles. In persistent cases, corticosteroid injections or surgery may be considered.
