Entorhinalis refers to the entorhinal cortex, a crucial brain region involved in memory formation and spatial navigation. It is located in the medial temporal lobe, adjacent to the hippocampus. The entorhinal cortex acts as a major gateway for information flowing into the hippocampus from the neocortex. It is also a primary output pathway for information leaving the hippocampus.

This brain structure is organized into distinct layers, each with specific connections and functions. The medial entorhinal cortex is particularly important for encoding spatial information, containing neurons that fire in specific locations within an environment, known as "grid cells." The lateral entorhinal cortex, on the other hand, is more involved in processing sensory and contextual information related to memory.

Damage or dysfunction of the entorhinal cortex is strongly associated with memory impairments, most notably in Alzheimer's disease. In Alzheimer's, the entorhinal cortex is one of the first areas to be affected, leading to difficulties with learning new information and recalling past events. Research into the entorhinal cortex continues to shed light on the complex mechanisms of memory and spatial cognition.
