Energiatükkumine, a term derived from Estonian, describes the phenomenon of energy distribution and dispersion within a system over time. It is not a formal scientific term with a universally agreed-upon definition but rather a conceptual way to understand how energy moves and becomes less concentrated or less usable. This process can be observed in various physical and even abstract scenarios.

In a physical context, energiatükkumine can refer to the dissipation of energy from a concentrated source into the surrounding environment. For example, when a hot object is placed in a cooler room, its thermal energy gradually spreads out, leading to a state of thermal equilibrium. This spreading is a form of energiatükkumine, where the initial concentrated thermal energy becomes dispersed. Similarly, the decay of a highly energetic particle into less energetic ones represents a form of energy dispersal.

The concept also extends to systems where initial potential energy is converted into kinetic energy, which then often dissipates as heat or sound due to friction or other resistive forces.
