Endokrinolog, or endocrinologist, is a physician who specializes in disorders of the endocrine system. This field covers hormones produced by glands such as the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands, pancreas, and gonads, which regulate metabolism, growth, reproduction, and energy balance. Endokrinologs diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, from common diseases like diabetes mellitus to rare hormonal syndromes, and they often work in collaboration with primary care physicians and other specialists.

Training and certification for an endokrinolog typically involves medical school followed by residency training in internal medicine or pediatrics, and then a fellowship in endocrinology. In many countries clinicians pursue board certification in endocrinology or metabolism. Subspecialties include pediatric endocrinology, reproductive endocrinology, and neuroendocrinology.

Major areas of focus include diabetes and metabolic disorders; thyroid diseases such as hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, goiter, and nodules; parathyroid and calcium metabolism; osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases; adrenal disorders like Addison’s disease and Cushing’s syndrome; pituitary disorders such as growth hormone abnormalities and hypopituitarism; and reproductive or pediatric endocrine issues including polycystic ovary syndrome, puberty disorders, and infertility.

The diagnostic approach combines clinical history, physical examination, laboratory hormone testing, imaging, and dynamic stimulation or suppression tests. Treatments may involve medications, hormone replacement therapy, lifestyle interventions, and coordinated care with other specialists, including surgeons or oncologists, when necessary.

Endokrinologs work in outpatient clinics, hospital settings, and academic centers, often managing chronic conditions and complex endocrine disorders through longitudinal care and multidisciplinary teams.
